The European Union Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health confirmed that there is new evidence that choline chloride is an auxiliary rather than an original drug. In the future, pesticides containing choline chloride will be registered and used in the EU. Choline chloride was previously included in the EU's review list of existing technical drugs, but the European Commission decided not to re-register it in 2004 because it did not submit further data.
